Is the Federal Reserve acting in our best interest?

As I have been doing more research into the Fed (Federal Reserve System) I am growing in the belief that it is time to make drastic changes in the Fed, if not do away with it altogether. The Fed was created as a result of the Federal Reserve Act of 1913 as the brainchild of the most powerful private bankers of the day. In short, it was created to ensure good fortune for said bankers.

The main problems with the Fed, and reasons why it needs changes, have recently been written about by one of the writers I follow closely, Jim Jubak. I'm no expert on banking and the financial system, but I do posses common sense. My common sense tells me that when you print enormous sums of paper money, you dilute the value of all the money. Since the creation of the Fed, the US Dollar has lost over 90% of it's value. That is astounding....and absurd. My common sense tells me it is time take action to increase the value of the US Dollar. Perhaps, and this is a shocker, moving BACK to the method of backing every US Dollar with something real and valuable, like, say, GOLD!

We are a pivotal point in our history. If we continue down the path that all of these haughty "one worlders" want to take us on, we will see a continuing devaluation of the dollar, meteoric rises in inflation, and a US economy not the envy of the world, but a laughing stock. Remember, there are many countries around the world who wish us ill will and would love to see a collapse of the USA.

Or, we can come together, and say enough is enough. We can restore our financial integrity and strength in the world. But instead of relying purely on people who spend their lives studying what other studiers write, perhaps we ought to give good old common sense a try......

A time for real leadership......

American icons of business on the brink of ruin.....
CEO's groveling at the feet of politicians.....
Wealthy people duped in Ponzi schemes.....
Federal Reserve and Treasury reeking of desperation....
Governor of Illinois engulfed in scandal.....
and the President Elect.....suddenly, strangely, nowhere to be found....

What has happened to Leadership in America? Where have the leaders gone? What is leadership?

The last question is the easiest to answer. Leadership, at least my definition, is a set of traits that allow a person to stand up, tell the truth - share a vision - outline a plan of action that will result in the realization of the vision. Leadership is also courage to tell people things they may not like to hear and to not back down in the face of adversity.

As we create the largest sub-prime mortgage ever (the mortgaging of the future of America to bail out companies and failure to hold companies accountable for their failures) and give hundreds of billions of dollars to companies who have truly only earned the right to go bankrupt and/or out of business we are witnessing a truly amazing lack of leadership in America.

We should be ashamed. Our elected leaders should be ashamed. We must rally together around a sensible and coherent vision and message. The time has come for us to come together as Americans and swallow the bitter pills in the short term so that our economy, our future, our country can not only be stable, but truly flourish in the future.

Continuing to bail out every company that "needs" taxpayer money to make up for poor management is not the kind of leadership we need today. Listening to highly unqualified people like Barney Frank, Chris Dodd, Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi and the like telling career business people how they must operate and what products they must produce to get help is ridiculous. Almost as ridiculous as the CEO's of the Big Three automakers thinking they should get taxpayer money!

How about Bankruptcy???? Bankruptcy laws are on the books to protect businesses and allow them to reorganize so that they can emerge from bankruptcy able to compete and succeed. Is bankruptcy tough? YES. Chrysler has filed bankruptcy before, and they survived. Fact is, the Big Three should file for bankruptcy, bust the UAW and RESPONSIBLY right size the wages paid to workers and right size the benefit packages for retirees.

Giving the Big Three $15 Billion will only put off the inevitable for 2, 3, maybe 4 months. Let's bite the bullet now, take the medicine we should have taken 5, 10, 20 years ago and hold people and companies responsible for their actions.

A real leader would stand up, tell us that doing the right thing today, no matter how difficult, is the right thing to do.

Just vote for Obama and things WILL get better!

That is what we heard time and time and time and time again from Barack Obama during the Presidential campaign. People swooned and fainted and cried when they heard him speak. We all heard the lady, Peggy Johnson I believe her name was, from Ohio, who took her daughter to an Obama rally and told a local report that because she was voting for Obama, he was going to take care of her and she was not going to have to worry about paying her mortgage or put gas in her car!

Oh you blind followers of Obama, how so very wrong you were, and are! Yesterday, December 7th, on Meet the Press, Obama told us that he was not going to save us from this recession and that he can't snap his fingers and fix it like he promised. Too bad Peggy, you have to keep paying your mortgage and filling up your own gas tank. BUMMER!

And now, today, I am reading that the far left WHACKO Liberals (they like to call themselves "Progressives") are up in arms because Obama is not appointing all of the other leftist/socialist/marxist nutjobs to his cabinet.

Someone once told to be careful of people like Obama....actually he told me to be wary of used car salespeople....you know, the type that will do and say whatever is needed, regardless of truth or validity, to get you to buy what he's selling.

Now I am still VERY worried about what this Obama presidency is going to do to our great nation. I am still moving forward with www.takebacktherepublicanparty.org and together, we are going to build an organization that is going to reform our party to its roots. We will include the millions of Americans who, like me, think that smaller government, lower taxes for everyone, safe and secure borders and streets, and personal responsibility are the items we must focus on to re-establish American dominance around the world.

Obama is NOT the solution. He told us on the campaign trail that we should feel bad about America and our place in the world. He and his followers want us to become "one-worlders" and devalue the American Experience, further destroy the value of the American dollar, and cripple American Exceptionalism by taxing those that DO and giving to those that DON'T.

Those policies will simple not work. They never have and they never will. History has proven it, time and time again.

What is wrong with Democrats?

In Boston, the Libs want to add more to their gas tax.
In NC, the Dems want to make I-77 a TOLL road????? HUH? And in NC some group of fruit and nutsos wants to create a new TAX...oh wait I think they are calling it a mileage usage fee.....something like $50-100 for every 10,000 miles you drive in a year??? DOUBLE HUH?????


Have we lost our collective minds???????? How many times do we have to elect these people who think the way out of tough times is by creating more government programs and increasing taxes??? These are all examples of tax increases that the Dems hide in things other than income tax. Why, because we let them, the REPUBLICAN PARTY lets them, get away with it....time and time and time and time again.

FACT: Lower taxes = more jobs. Why? Lower taxes mean companies keep more of what they earn and when companies have more money they invest in new technology and in new people.
FACT: Lower taxes = more consumer spending. Why? When people have more money, they buy more stuff. This buying of more stuff is key to our economic engine.
FACT: Lower taxes = more investment. Why? Not everyone needs or wants new stuff. So, individuals invest more when they take home more money. Companies invest more when they have more to invest.

The Republican Party has so violently moved away from its values of small limited government, low taxes, intelligent and thoughtful regulation, and driving governing decisions to the most local of levels possible that it is a party in shambles. The RINOs (Republicans in Name Only) are really tax and spend Liberals that wear the R on their jersey and the far right of the party that uses its divisive issues to fight for party control both have it all wrong.

With each day that passes, I talk to more and more people who, like me, believe that the overwhelming majority of Americans uphold the same ideals....lower taxes, smaller government, safe and secure borders, welfare reform, being Americans first, and finding and building real world solutions from the common ground upon which almost all of us stand.

I am going to ask you, and I am going to ask you to ask others, to join OUR American Revolution. We are going to work hard, raise money, and be inclusive of everyone that shares our views (and with 80% or so of Americans agreeing with us, we're going to have a big dinner table). It is time we stop being apathetic. Our parents deserve better from us for the sacrifices they made. Our children deserve better from us, as they are going to bear the tremendous burden that, if we don't fix things NOW, we are going to leave for them. They deserve better.

You see, we, in the 22-50 year old age bracket have been spoiled. We've had it too easy. Too few of us understand what real struggle and sacrifice really means. But, if we don't come together on the common ground that binds us, we are in for a rude awakening.

Things are moving along....

We are two weeks post election, and now just 714 days remain until the mid term election of 2010.

To say the least, there is much work to be done. In the two weeks since the election, while the bailout continues to have no real impact on the economy other than to have every industry going to Congress with their hands out, looking for freebies, and the money already distributed being used to fatten holiday bonuses for banking executives. Now the automakers are trying to get in on the action. Some cities are trying to get in on it too.

Yet, while all of this nonsense is taking place, we've been out buying web site domains in preparation for the launch of the next American Revolution....the one in which we launch, recruit members, impact local, state GOP's as well as the national GOP with our new organization Take Back The Republican Party.org and our new sites, www.takebacktherepublicanparty.org .net and .us!

I've been meeting with creative design teams and work is beginning on the new site and the new logo. We'll be asking you to join us, to contribute to our cause and to the future of our country. We'll be doing many things....joining forces to influence state and local Republican Party chapters across the country, and reshaping the party of Lincoln, Teddy Roosevelt, Ike and Reagan back into the party of small government, low taxes, safe and secure borders and streets, and above all, inclusion. You see, we are a center right leaning country. We, as Americans, share the same core beliefs, values and ideals about what our government should, and should NOT be....and we are going to focus on real world solutions in the areas upon which the ground we stand on is common to us all.

We ARE going to affect the Republican Party in ways that will rock its core. We are going to work with, and on behalf of candidates who have and will, based on their record, hold true to OUR American values...and we are going to help get these people elected. Simply put, we are going to alter the course of American History by helping OUR party take back Congress and fix our out of control government.

Much like there were doubters 240+ years ago, the people who said the original revolutionaries could not revolt against the almighty and all powerful British government, so too will there be doubters about our mission. They will tell us we are crazy, that we can't have any effect, that the parties have too much money, too much control......I will look them in the eye and ask them where in the American Experience is helplessness? What part of the fabric of our great country says that we are helpless to make our government be of, by and for the People?

So today, November 19th, I let you all know of the general plan. There are many more details to come. And. we can only be successful, and we MUST be successful in this journey, if you, your relatives, friends, neighbors, co-workers and their friends, relatives, neighbors and co-workers join us in our fight. We are building a great team. There will also be room for people to take on leadership positions as our organization grows. It will be hard work......it will be hard work.

But for as hard as this work is going to be, think to yourself about what it is that those of us from 30-50 years old can say we have accomplished for our country? Have we done anything collectively for our country that makes our parents proud? Have we done anything that has made America better for our children and grandchildren than it has been for us?

I have spent many hours thinking about these things. I've got the following.....worst economy in 2 generations....most vulnerable borders in the history of our nation.....largest government, national debt in numbers I can't even comprehend, failure to reform welfare, social security, health care in any remotely meaningful ways.

It is time that we come together, stand upon the common ground that binds us to capitalize on OUR American Exceptionalism. To use our greatness to solve the problems we are facing. To make our parents proud and to give our children a chance to enjoy the amazing opportunities we have taken for granted during our lives.

We ARE going to do this. Together. Americans. We will not take no for an answer, it is not our way, it is not who we are.......

Well, a week has passed since the election.....

First of all, and most importantly, before we get back into politics, I want to take a minute and express my gratitude to all current and former military personnel who so bravely and courageously make sacrifices so that the rest of us do not have to. There are no words to express the true depth of appreciation that I have for the brave men and women that serve and have served, that have paid the ultimate price to protect what we too often take for granted....our freedom and liberty. So, on this Veteran's Day, and everyday, I thank you for your brave and selfless service. And, if I am ever elected to serve in a public office, you can bet I will fight tirelessly to ensure that our veterans, military personnel and their families are treated the way they should be treated. With honor, thanks, and a whole lot better than they are treated today.
So, thank you for your service.

On to politics. It has been a week since the election, and while it would be easy to criticize this group or that candidate, I don't think blame is the correct approach. What we need in this country are real solutions. We also need to understand that based on the Presidential election, we are a country very much divided. We have Republicans voting for third party candidates who have no chance of winning because those voters are frustrated with the state of the Republican Party. The Republican Party, frankly, is in a bit of disarray. The party has no consistent message and it is being pulled apart by the far right wingers on one side and the liberal republicans on the other side of the party. If we learned one thing from Obama and his campaign, is that having a simple consistent message and not straying from that message works very well.

We also learned, based on exit polling and from Obama's message, that we are a right of center country. We always have been that way. We still are that way. And we always will be that way. (Unless we keep electing socialists). Obama's message was a very right of center, Republican-esque message. Lower Taxes. Obama and the Dems beat McCain and the Republicans at our own game. YIKES!!!!

Further proof. 44% of Americans consider themselves to be Moderates. 34% consider themselves to be Conservatives. 22% consider themselves to be Liberals. So, 78% of Americans are center to right and we could only get 48%ish percent of them to vote for the Republican ticket???? That's what happens when your message is not clear and you spend all of your time pandering to the extremes.

So, all of this has led me to go out and start the process, one person at a time, of rebuilding and re-branding the Republican Party. In the very near future I will be launching www.takebacktherepublicanparty.org and one person at a time, we are going to build an organization all across this country around the common ground that we, as Americans, stand on. If you are a reader of this blog, I am going to ask you to check out our site once it is launched, and I am going to ask you to contribute to our shared cause, both financially and by spreading the word and getting additional people to join our cause.

Our message will be clear. That we, as Americans, are more alike than we are different. We share a common set of values and ideals that bind us together and we must focus on those things, and on solving our most pressing issues first. And these most pressing issues are issues the vast majority of us agree on. Everyone is welcome in takebacktherepublicanparty.org. Even if you are a registered Democrat or Independent of Libertarian, if you share our views, you are welcomed to be included and a part of our team.

We've come to a point where we are divided by the party jersey we may wear. It's time to come together, upon the common ground we share, to solve the common problems that ail us. Together, with your help, we are going to make a lasting, impactful, positive difference upon our country. Get ready......REAL change is in the air.......it's exciting! There IS hope!!!!!

As you may have read in prior posts, I have told you how my folks were good card carrying members of unions. My dad has retired and my mom left the union world for the (GASP) management world. That, however, is not why I know there IS hope for us all!

Today, we can have hope because yesterday I got a call from my mom and after beating her up for a few months, she finally conceded to me that maybe, just maybe, the Libs in Congress ARE the problem and that we should not blame everything on W and the Republicans......a word of caution, just because someone wears the jersey of Republican, does NOT necessarily mean that person is a Conservative.

I had told my mom about 3 months ago, that if the President and Congress lifted their respective bans on drilling for American oil, that oil would plummet to the $80 a barrel range, gas would return to $2.75 a gallon and the negative impact that higher gas prices and higher food prices have had on SOME people would be reversed, consumer sentiment would go back up and we'd move more quickly towards a return to economic growth (still pain to be felt in the housing and mortgage industries, but let's face it, things are not the doom and gloom that the Libs in Congress and the Libs in the media want you to believe).

Lo and behold if the President didn't lift the executive ban and a barrel of oil in two weeks has gone from $145 a barrel to it's close at just over $122 per barrel. HUH? WHO KNEW?????

I told my mom that if Congress, especially the Democrats, really and truly cared about the American people, they would lift the congressional ban on drilling today and oil would drop below $100 a barrel and likely all the way down to $80 a barrel....please, before I go further, sit down...this is big.........

My mom AGREED with me!!!!!!!!!! WOOOOOOHOOOOOOOO!!!!!

If my mom can admit to the evils and selfish behavior of the Dems in Congress, we have reason to hope! When we, as Conservatives, educated people and show them the light, it WILL make sense and they will come to see the fallacy of the liberals.

The Democrats in Congress are the ones that should be impeached. Grandstanding to the American public, telling us how bad things are and how the price of gas is killing the average American family, yet they refuse to overturn the ban and HELP. Why? VOTES. The Democrats want as many Americans as possible to suffer as much as possible in the hopes they can keep control of Congress and get Obama elected as President. Then, they will lift the ban on drilling for American oil and proclaim it as a victory because it was their idea in the first place.

They will do and say ANYTHING for votes. They could care less about you and me and the average American family. All they care about is power.....and it is plainly evident that the power they have now has corrupted them (giving them the benefit of the doubt that they were not already corrupt).

If your Congressional representative is opposed to lifting the drilling ban, you MUST vote for their opponent in November. McCain is gaining in the polls, and if the Republicans play it right all across this country, there is a great chance for them to take not only the White House, but to also get control in Congress.......

Do your part.....vote against the Democrats. And spread the word to your lib friends and relatives.......Democrat politics is BAD for America. Conservative values, lower taxes, reliance on the free market, personal responsibility....these are the things we need to grab hold of and force our elected officials to use as the beacon that guides every facet of every level of government.

And, even more than having hope, you should have faith. Faith that, with knowledge that we can impart, even the liberals amongst us will move to the right as we inform them of the truth.

Pain at the Pump? Blame Pelosi and the LIBS!!!!!

Well, well, well....like sands through the hourglass, so leaks out all the brain cells and the dirty little secrets of the Liberals running the Democrat Party into the ground.

President Bush lifts the executive ban on drilling for oil....the price of oil drops from the mid $140 per barrel range and into the mid $120 a barrel range. Coincidence? NO. Liberal Policy working? HA HA HA...that's a good one!

This stuff is pure politics as usual, and the Liberals are being made to look like the power hungry lying fools that they really are.......

Obama, Pelosi and the other liberal jokers that stack the deck against the American people tell us they feel our pain, $4 gas is too much, it's killing the average person......we should do something about oil prices (like tax the oil companies)......when in fact, and yes, I am flat calling the Liberal in Congress LIARS, because they are LIARS!

Liberals do not care about the price of gas coming down during this election year. In fact, they want it to go higher! Why? Higher gas = higher food = more pain for SOME families.....that is the kind of politics the Libs play.

Power is more important to Liberals than anything, or anyone else. And, you guessed it, votes = power. So, if they can help drive prices up, or keep prices from coming down, they'll have people mad at Bush and will get the votes of those people.

The solution to bring gas prices back down to $80 a barrel and gas back to sub $3 a gallon is for Congress (controlled by the liberal Democrats) to lift the congressional ban on drilling. It's really that simple. REAL experts (not money and power hungry say anythings the libs march out for the media buddies) ALL know that President Bush lifting the ban is THE reason oil prices have dropped, and if Congress did the same thing, prices would fall through the floor.

So, if you are thinking about voting for a Dem, what the hell are you thinking???????????

Call them and write them and demand they overturn the Congressional ban on drilling for American oil today! And, this fall, vote for every Conservative you can find on your local ballot!

Econo-ignorance

Happy Friday! So, I have been thinking over the past week or so, that the real crisis America currently faces is not just about terrorists or Socialists disguised as members of the Democrat Party like Obama and Clinton and Dean and UGH Pelosi. Added to that is the growing number of Americans who just have no knowledge and background in basic economic principles.

You see, it is the combination of our Constitution and our Economics that have made America great. And, contrary to what to all the Libs and leftist media want you to believe, America is great. We should not feel bad about that, and we absolutely must not apologize for it. Yes, we are in a different time today than we were 200+ years ago when the Constitution was drafted. Those founding principles however, are as valid today as they were then.

The point of today's entry, however, is economics. Shocking, frightening, appalling, sad, depressing....those are the words that come to mind when I talk with random people about this year's election, when I hear callers to talk radio, when I watch tv, read the news, listen to Barack and Hillary stump etc.

For as great as America still is, one of our greatest challenges is that there is an ever growing base of the populous that frankly, is econo-ignorant. I struggle to understand what it is that makes people believe that the economics of Obama or Clinton are in the best interest of keeping America great and making America even greater. I get that the "average" person looks at the price of oil and food sees those prices rocketing upward....but I also think the "average" person doesn't really understand why that is happening. It is my belief that too many people get their news from outlets with Liberal agendas, and that a large portion of the population has been brainwashed by the media into believing that things are incredibly bad right now.

As a Conservative, I believe that, if I want to better my plot in life, it is up to me and that I am ultimately and solely responsible to make it happen. That is the very essence of the American Spirit. That we live in a country that allows us such amazing opportunity to do and be who and what we strive to be. Yet, we have candidates who think that the failed ideologies of Socialist and Communist regimes is the way to go forward. Don't you think there are reasons why the U.S.S.R. ceases to exist? Don't you think there are reasons that we, in America, enjoy the greatest standard of living on Earth?

America was built and became great because people did not wait for and rely on the government to save them. Yet, in Obama and Clinton, we have people that espouse a philosophy of taking from the people that do, to give to the people that don't. I don't know about you, but it scares the lights out of me to think that an Obama led administration will try to take profits away from companies to create more welfare programs for the lazy. That is the EXACT OPPOSITE approach from what has and will work. Let's let it be known I am no fan of some things the Bush Admnistration and the Democrat led Congress have done this year. By bailing out people who bought more home than they could afford and by bailing out banks and financial institutions we rewarded irresponsible behaviors and have sent the message that, don't worry, the government will bail you out and take care of you. We should have forced these people and companies to accept responsibility for what they did and dig themselves out of their own holes.

If we provided all of our citizens with sound economic education, a) our nominees for President would be vastly different and b) we would not be subjected to all of this Robin Hood-ish grandstanding for votes. We would have candidates that stand before us and tell us that the right way for America to stay great and become greater is to:
1. Reduce the size of Government - At all levels, every government program and department should be put under the microscope. We waste so much money, because 95% of everything government touches it screws up.
2. By reducing the size of government, we will lower taxes for individuals AND companies. So let's see, if an individual pays less tax, they can save more (reducing social security crisis and invest in companies more, driving markets forward) and spend more (further moving the economy ahead). If a corporation pays less tax, it has the capital needed to expand, which means more jobs and more profits, which in turns helps individuals by getting more people working AND doubly by increasing the value of individuals investments because the companies perform better.
3. Eliminate the "Entitlement Mentality". Face it, people who want bigger government and think the way to help people is by creating government programs to "help" the needy, only espouse that philosophy as a way to gain votes, or to somehow make them feel less guilty about their own success. In prior posts, I have told you of my 3 yr plan to eliminate welfare as we know it. It is possible and it is doable.

It is my belief that the only reason you would, in a time like this, vote for Clinton or Obama, is because you have not been educated on economics. Simply, when people and companies pay less in tax, they spend more (in buying stuff, in creating jobs, in saving, in making retirement plans more profitable). When people and companies spend more, the economy grows. Yes, there will always be cyclical economic ups and downs. But even today, with gas at $3.75 a gallon, and when a fill up at this time last year (15 gallons at $2.75) cost $41.25, and it now costs $56.25.....would you even care about it if the 28% tax bracket became the 20% tax bracket?

Let's do that math. Let's say your household income is $100,000 and you are in, hypothetically, the 28% tax bracket. That's a $28,000 tax liability. What if, by reducing the size and scope of government, you suddenly had a 20% tax liability. That equates to $20,000. That's $8,000 per year in your pocket of real money. If you fill up your tank once a week at an extra $15 per fill up (times 52 weeks) that equals $780. Folks, there are two things there. First, the exorbitant cost of gas to fill your vehicle is going to cost you around $800 more this year than last. Shoot, most people blow $800 a MONTH on stuff and have no idea they do it. Second, by doing the right thing and lowering taxes, you'd be $7, 120 on the plus side!!!!!! Factor that out over 20 years....
and that is over $140,000.....if you invested that money, it would double roughly 1.5 times and your $140,000 would become an additional $350,000 in your retirement account.

You tell me......how on earth can you walk into a voting booth this November and vote for anyone other than someone who pledges to reduce government and taxes?

The only possible way, is because you are econo-ignorant.

We must force our schools, public and private, as well as our colleges and universities, to teach a balanced economic curriculum, without bias. We must elect people who are dedicated and committed to reducing the size of government and lowering taxes. We must find and elect people who understand these basic economic principles and fight to uphold them at all costs.

Sometime near the end of 2008 I hope to launch a non-profit organization dedicated to constructing a Conservative Curriculum and having as it's focus total and complete adoption of that curriculum by every public and private high school in America. We must teach our children, and ourselves, these principles and then use them to make decisions about who we want to lead America.

It's time to end the "Age of Econo-ignorance".

Are we focused on the right things?

So I went to Easter service at a new church yesterday, expecting to hear the same thing we hear every Easter Sunday at church. And, while this is certainly not a blog with which I want to get into religious discussions with, I can tell you that yesterday was not the "same old" church sermon I have heard in the past. Well, in fact it was, but the way in which the pastor framed the Resurrection of Jesus has really made me think quite a lot since.

In this age of instant information and instant gratification, we are bombarded every day with more stimuli than our brains can process effectively. Everything we see and buy and hear and feel must be the newest, shiniest, most technologically advanced gizmo ever created, or seemingly, we lose interest.

But have you ever watched a young child at Christmas? I was thinking back to the Christmas when my daughter was four. She had so many presents that we had to take a break mid morning because there was such an excess she couldn't open them all at one sitting. Later in the day, we finished opening the rest of the gifts, and sat down as a family for Christmas dinner. After dinner our daughter went off to play......but the craziest thing happened.....she did not go play with any of the new toys she had received, she found the biggest box and was in the process of taking that box from a lifeless, boring piece of cardboard and transforming it, plain as it was, into a fortress of sorts. Cushions piled high on one side, a table on the other. The spare set of sheets now being draped over the top and arranged in a way as to make the perfect canopy for what was becoming the best gift of the entire day.....a plain, empty box.

The thought of that Christmas was brought back to life yesterday when the pastor spoke of how we forget that often, the plain old simple things hold the most wonderment. Of course, he was speaking of the Bible. How the Bible is full of some 600+ people who had a personal experience with Jesus after he rose from the dead. How there are things our faith brings us to believe even though they happened so long ago we have no personal proof. How the Apostles all preached the very same things after the Resurrection...He came, He died, He rose from the dead. Not one of us reading this can prove (or disprove) any of it. It is Faith that guides us to believe. Long ago, when I was a substitute teacher, I taught middle school students in the very lowest math class, how to do Algebra. I remember one of the concepts that turned the light on for many of those that initially didn't "get it" was for them to trust and have faith that sometimes, letters could be numbers. Accept it and it will make sense I told them. I fondly remember seeing the esteem and confidence grow as they began to be successful in solving linear equations.

So, how does that apply to a Blog about Conservative thought you may be asking yourself. As I have continued thinking about yesterday's events, and about how the power of the Bible is so great that you can hear the same sermon year after year after year and still be inspired and awed by the power of it. We can apply a similar thought towards the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution. We don't need to write new laws and pass fancy entitlement programs. We need to hold a sense of wonderment and awe for the Founding Fathers and how they could be so thoughtful as to write documents 200+ years ago that, today, if we were to live and operate government by the creed that:

"We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness."

Further, if we all lived by these words and if our government and elected officials governed by, for and of the people, that we would once again reinforce the reality that these United States of America are indeed the best that humankind has ever offered. If we truly believe that all men are created equal, than there would be no need for special programs that politicians create. You see, our focus away from the plain old stuff, and into the shiny new WOW stuff, has pushed us further and further away from the true greatness of America.

America is not great because the programs of the "Great Society" have uplifted the poor and disenfranchised. In fact, those government programs have done more hard than good because they keep good people down by leading them to believe the government will take care of them. Our government is in the mode of self-fulfilling prophecy. The poor and disadvantaged vote for those who say "Hope and Change" when in fact, until you have Faith in yourself and in God to rise above you will be kept down by programs and a government that tells you they will take care of you.

Please join me in urging your local, state and national elected officials to do as the Founding Fathers intended. Create all men equal. All men are entitled to life, liberty and their own pursuit of happiness. That government can't tell us how to live of our lives. The government can't determine what our pursuit of happiness can or can not be. We must reduce government, eliminate it from the daily lives of citizens. Government CAN NOT make your life better, but through faith in God and faith in self, any person, willing to put in the hard work it takes, can make life better, and can pursue happiness beyond the parameters of our current government.
